Hi Monty . Finally got my engine together . The boring you have done on my carbs is spot on . Still in break in mode, idle is great low& mid throttle is working well .can’t wait to open it up . Thanks JohnJason Hall is a highly skilled mechanic. Monty,My conclusion as a mechanic for the last 20 plus years is that your exhaust does everything you say it does & the information about UFO's, is accurate! Thank you for building your product. I hope this will help every rider of an older motorcycle that you build an exhaust for.I wanted to let you know my thoughts & results about your exhaust system I bought from you. This is gonna be a lengthy process but I think it's important that I give a lot of detail so you & other folks can understand that it takes time, effort, money & patience to get what they want. Not everything is fast & easy like our society has become. The setup & specs of my bike It's a 1982 GS 1100e, bored to 75mm (1168 (maximum bore for a stock cylinder), stock is 1074) final compression ratio is 10.56 to 1, 168 grind Webb cams (.348 int lift, .348 ex lift, 282 degrees adv duration int & ex, 257 degrees @ .050 int & ex duration. Look up the specs if anything after this you don't believe.), a mildly ported cylinder head (casting lines have been removed, int ports have minimal clean up, as far as I can tell. The ex ports have been scuffed but not enlarged (the basis for my observation of the "ported head" is measuring the volume of trans fluid that all int & ex ports held vs a stock 1981 cylinder head (1980-1981 head int & ex volume "stock is the same as 1982, I have all 3 years of cylinder heads. I do not have a 1983 cylinder head but all Suzuki did in 1983 was increase the camshaft lift (I've researched this at length) to deal w/ the Honda CB 1100F) (If you don't believe me, look it up) 2 mm larger valves on the in, stock ex valves, a decent valve job at a machine shop, APE vs1100s springs, APE tvsrs1100 retainers, (not sure who made the keepers but me & the machinist agreed that they were in good shape), my crankshaft & clutch basket w/ HD backing plate & springs w/ straight cut 1100 gears was built at Gardner Racing Concepts, the 5 speed trans was cut by Bernie Bartley, & the cams are degreed at 100.4 int & 104.5 ex. The main chassis is stock w/ a 92 gsxr inverted front end, an adjustable stainless swing arm, stock to 5" over (I prefer to run it at approx. 3 over stock) (Hand made in a garage), gsxr front & rear wheels & brakes. I use a Dyna S ign system w/ a dyna 2 step rev limiter (low & high limit) w/ stock spark plugs, & it's all fed by 36 mm RS flat slide carbs w/ aluminum velocity stacks (that after talking to Sudco the carbs are actually 20 plus yrs old, possibly 35 but they really wouldn't say for sure. They were more interested in getting me to send them back to them & charge me $600.00 for a new set because Mikuni found a problem w/ the older RS flatslides?????) Well that's enough talking about my bike & the little bit of knowledge I have about history & my conclusions. I have had Kerker, Mac, Vance & Hines, (multiple Vance & Hines) & stock exhaust systems on my stock engine over the years (I've owned my bike for 21 years) & when I built the above engine & read everything on your web site, I thought to myself, "why not? you've already spent all this money trying the big name exhaust systems, why not try Monty's exhaust system" & what I found was that I should have bought your exhaust YEARS ago. The following paragraphs will hopefully explain why I should have bought your exhaust system years ago & why you haven't sold more or them. I think this is important for you to know about me. I absolutely love old motorcycles & old cars. Both have a lot of character. I enjoy them for they're simplicity & elegance. I don't want either of them to die off. I've built 450 hp small block Chevys, Fords, Mopar’s & 700 hp big block Chevys. All of them (when the owners listened to me), they all ran competitively in a "street" class. The above motorcycle engine is the first one I've taken to this point. I worked w/ a local small motorcycle shop for about 3 years putting old bikes back on the road. I worked on anything built from 1992-1969 & 95% of the time, my customers were happy (You'll always have a certain amount of folks that can't be happy.) Having said that ------ Anyone that buys your exhaust needs to do their carb & ign maintenance & make sure the engine is running properly i.e. synchronize the carbs (extremely important !!!!!!) w/ vacuum gauges (not mercury gauges. I've found that mercury gauges are not as accurate as vacuum gauges simply because there really isn't a way to calibrate mercury gauges & it seems like they're affected by ambient air temperature). I calibrate my vacuum gauges every time I use them w/ my Mity Vac kit. (Maybe there's a better way but that's how I was taught by a guy that tuned car engines the same way. 9 inhg at idle on a healthy old engine worked every time) "Reading the spark plug" is very important! (Now finding someone that bright anymore is challenging but since the average person doesn't wanna pay to have they're engine dyno tuned), they can simply take a ratchet, extension & socket on a wide open run in second gear, look at the plug, & compare it to what the manual says (which every old motorcycle owner should have). I have found that my local motorcycle shops, w/ the exception of one, doesn't have a mechanic capable/knowledgeable enough to tune any motorcycle w/ carburetors. So I struggled through tuning my motorcycle until I got to the point that I only had a small "flat spot" between 5000-6000 rpm w/ your exhaust on it. (Please remember that this is a new, bigger engine, & bigger cams, w/ a cylinder head that's not stock, so tuning takes a bit of time because you have to tune multiple circuits). At a 35 mph "throttle gouge" in 1st gear my motorcycle (w/ a stock size gsxr, dunlop Q3 tire, w/ 30 psi of air in it) will spin the tire, the tach hits 10500 rpm (rev limiter setting for now) so fast I can't shift fast enough. As soon as I hit the rev limiter, the bike "noses over" so hard I have to move in the seat & when I shift into second gear & "gouge the throttle" I have to hold onto the bike like I've never had to hang on to another motorcycle, EVER. After I got my tuning this close (I still have a little to do currently). I started to ask myself "Is the motorcycle performing this good because of the cc's & cams or is it the exhaust'? So I put the Vance & Hines sidewinder drag exhaust back on & took the motorcycle for a "hard rip"on the same route as w/ your exhaust & riding it the same way, What I found was that in the 45 mins that it took me to change the complete exhaust system (bare in mind that the ambient air temperature, humidity, & elevation (elevation never changed) didn't really change) but I noticed a SIGNIFICANT change in power. My motorcycle went from spinning the tire on a 35 mph "gouge of the throttle" in first gear, to just simply pulling hard & took longer to get into its power band. W/ your exhaust system, the tach hit the rev limiter so quick, I couldn't shift fast enough & the speedo was erratic. Like it couldn't keep up w/ how fast the motorcycle was gaining speed. I felt like all I could do is, hold on. W/ the Vance & Hines sidewinder, the tire didn't spin, I could shift in time, the speedo & tach were steadily moving, & I didn't feel the "hard pull" on the clip ons like w/ your exhaust! Plus I CAN TURN RIGHT w/o dragging the exhaust on the pavement. -Jason HallHi. I bought one of your MXI X-PIPE for a GS1100 a while back. Just wanted to call and tell you how happy I am with it. That thing, ...I really thought that, .. Ya, I got surprised! Thanks again. Jason, from Iowa.

I still like the pipe as much now as I did when I 1st put it on. It is awesome. Although I have to admit there are a few cretins out there who don't like the look. Too bad on them. Thanks, Larry Kwiatkowski

The bike runs from idle through 7000 much stronger. Has that arm stretch feeling again in the mid range. Vernon Kuhns MXI S

Cool, thanks Monty for responding so quickly. I am very please with the Maxi-Dwell2 (M-DII). So this is my second time ordering it. I have the first one installed on my honda CB750 and it worked like a charm. OEM points and condensers are such a hassle. This second order will go to my CB550F Supersport. Thanks again, Ray

Thanks again for your business! I really like this item. This is my second time to buy the Maxi-Dwell2 point ignition w/light. This is going to my 75' Honda CB550F supersport. Please provide tracking number and shipping date. Awesome! Thanks again!!!!

Just wanted to tell you that this item (MAXI-DWELL™ ignition) is awesome! I just installed it and followed the instructions and it works great! thanks X Raymond, Bothell, Wa

I really like the look of the X-PIPETM exhaust for the XS650. I'm very excited about this XS650 exhaust. In our quiet little tourist town here in Bend, OR., there are a lot of choppers. No one has the type of bike that I am building. It will stand out in any crowd. With your exhaust, it may be one of the few in the pacific northwest! JOE

Monty, I finally put my XS650 motor in the bike and fired it up. WOW the pipes sound GREAT. They look totally cool on the bike too. thought you might want to know Thanks Jerome

I will send some pics when i get it on the road. In your description you said the pipes are not loud because of the way the exhaust pulses cancel each other, you are right, it sounds good but not obnoxious. I will keep in touch

Here are a couple of photos. The bike (XS650) is just primed, but sounds great and runs perfect. Jerome Sorich

Bought your pipes for my Z-1 about 2 years ago. Worked pretty damned good although I never really beat the bike. chrger665vqf

I am completely happy with my X-PIPETM, bike runs great with them and I am sure that the weight savings helped a lot .. stock exhaust seems like its a 100 lbs heavier.. Earl Bitzel

Runs great keeping a classic on the road isn't easy but worth it. thank you this will really finish off the bike. here are some pic just for u man thanks a million Ryan Carle, Michigan

I have been using your timing units (Maxi-Dwell) on all of my builds and love them! Pate

Hey Monty, you were right I was way lean! I bought 117.5 main jets and the difference was amazing! It could maybe go up one or two more to get it perfect but it is very close and between the number 9 plugs and the new jets I am astonished! Thank you for your time! My Dads plating shop is called S.J. Valley Plating and they have a web site sjvalleyplating.com You could call my dad and tell him you lined me out and he will be happy to help you. 1-408-988-5502, his name is Fred. Thank you soooooo much!!! Jason

Monty; Enjoying the new system. The X-PipeTM was installed on my 76 KZ900 for the Barbers Museum vintage festival. It sounded great and looked really good with the Jet Hot sterling coating. It got a lot of attention. I thought it would be way too loud when I saw the size of the canisters but have been surprised by the pleasant sound throughout the rpm range. I would like to get another set of canisters. How much do you sell the MX3 canisters for? Thank You Corry P.S. I will send a few pic's in a couple weeks when I get back from Japan

Hi Monty - Believe it or not, I kept your message until I (finally!) got around to painting my Yamaha XS650 street tracker. Here are some pix: I was going for more of an old TT look than a dirt tracker - so your pipes look just about perfect. Bike runs great! Clayton Englar

Hey, my name is Jay, owner of Lossa Engineering, I used your pipe on my CB750 on the Cafe Racer TV show. I got the message you were inquiring to the production company about helping out. They are coming back to my shop to film some for season 2. I put the episode up on You tube : http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=kmF9hFMw-DM I loved the pipe, how can I get hooked up to offer your pipe to my customers? I have been selling tons of parts since the show aired. Jay @ Lossa Engineering Custom Cafe Bikes/ Vintage restoration

It’s quick! It’s really dialed in! It’s really responsive! That bike’s really fast! It’s really smooth. You can do a lot with those old bikes. He gets them to perform better than they would have stock. Really fun! Hi Monty, I have a MX-3 Pipe that I've had on my CBX for a few years now...I'd like to say I really like it and has been preferred for my personal bike. Thank you Jason Thompson

I have your X-PIPETM on my 82 KZ1100, and am very pleased with the results, and so am now considering the X-PIPETM for my FJ1100. Bert

Campbell X-PIPETM google it will never go for a 4-1 system again. Thanks Larry Kwiatkowski.

Good afternoon Monty I got to give it to you When I was going to order the X-PIPETM I had my doubts about the fitting like any other mail orders I put on the X-PIPETM today it fits like a glove nice job Next few days I will get to hear them I am sure it will blow me away Thanks again Del

How's it going? I currently have your X-PIPETM on my SOHC CB750 Honda and absolutely love it. Thanks! – backdoorboogaloo Dear Mr Campbell, I would like to purchase another of your Maxi-Dwell ignition for the Honda cb750k, 1970 model. I have purchased one of these from you previously and am very happy especially with low rpm idle dwell as I have a performance camshaft fitted to the engine, an excellent product thank you. Mr Tim James Australian Capital Territory Bought your X-PIPETM (MX3) a few years back. Still working great. You also bored by carbs, they are working great. Looks good. Sounds good. A friend has a similar Kawasaki KZ1000. After riding my KZ1000, he asked, “Why is this thing so much faster than my KZ (29mm Smoothbores + Kerker)? Your KZ, second to third gear it smokes the back tire and lifts the front tire off the ground!” David Cino, truck driver, Pixley, CA Jason Gates to Kawasaki KZ Riders Just wanna say.... If anybody is looking to purchase a pipe for your KZs look into a Campbell X-PIPETM. I installed one on my mark 2 and WOW. I originally had a MAC pipe. My bike now has a bottom end grunt that i have never had before and it is not loud at all. It also has 3 power bands 4 8 and 12 thousand rpms. The only thing i dont like is that i have to remove the headder to change the oil. But WOW. Just sayin. (A drain valve will allow oil changes w/o removing the X-PipeTM.) Gudday Monty, I am having great use of the Maxi Dwell ignition for my cb750 I purchased from you some years back. I would like to purchase another Maxi Dwell from you for my other cb750 k1 engine. Please contact me and I will purchase another from you. Once you got there you never go back. Tom Hi there here is a photo of my XS1100. with X-PIPETM exhaust system just love the power and sound...best regards Jocke vvs-jocke.otra@hotmail.com hi Monty. Regards, - quasirobo wow snatched second gear full throttle and pulled the front wheel off the ground on a flat straight, only did that goin up hills before. dude26420 Hello,, Sent a photo of the bike,,,, the sound of the exhaust system is great,,.......Best regards Jocke.. For feedback I have seen cb750 bloggers have achieved 11,500rpm reliably from a cb750 sohc without points bounce (M-DII). Not that I will wring that out of my engine but nice to know the capability. Thanks Tim Powerboost about4500rpm and 8,5-10,5 on my hicomp 1330cc GPZ84 ,very satisfied Buyer: caca0505 The X-PIPETM sounds amazing. The bike has incredible torque between 4-6,000 rpm and runs up to 9,000 rpm and 125 MPH. The jetting is very conservative. These are XS1100 Special carbs which normally run 110 jets stock. John set them at 127.5. The bike has excellent in town manners running at low rpm, shifting out early. Easy to maneuver in traffic. Arek FressadiHello Monty! this system looks incredible! I am saving up to get one as soon as possible. I have a 1980 XS1100 that I customized myself (hard tail, sporty tank, hand made solo seat, exe..) your exhaust is exactly what I have been looking for to complete the bike. I can't wait! look forward to doing business with you, keep up the good work! -Dave By the way, I love what you did on my 750 carbs (Maxi-Bore). Much better response. Thanks.
